Mayor of Gardner
Welcome one and all to the 2014 Johnson County Fair in beautiful downtown Gardner. What awaits fair-goers this summer is a week’s worth of fun for all who visit our fair city and this venerable county event. There is something for everyone this week including a rodeo, races, live entertainment, a demolition derby, judged 4-H competitions, and a carnival with five nights of thrill rides and games that promise prizes galore. Fair cuisine will be available in abundance, with a wide variety of appetizers, meals, desserts and treats.
On Saturday morning Aug. 2, the Johnson County Fair Parade rolls through downtown Gardner with thousand of city and county residents in attendance and enjoying the music, dancing, horses, fabulous floats, marching bands, and all manner of motorized vehicles. The theme of this years fair is “Fur and Feather” and at this fair both will fly and not just because of the thrill rides, but also because all week long there is never a dull moment.
Visitors to the fair can enjoy themselves with the knowledge that they are safe and secure thanks to city police and county sheriff’s officers, fire and emergency medical services, and the careful planning and execution of the fair board and their many volunteers.
I hope Gardner and Johnson County residents and visitors from across the metro area and State take time to visit and enjoy the fun, food, and pageantry.
Fair time is a great time to live in Gardner. Enjoy this time with your family, friends, and in fellowship with your community. Have fun, let the “Fur and Feathers” fly, be safe, and take advantage of all this event, unique to Gardner, has to offer.
