Rotary Photo 2As most parents get ready for a new school year, a few Gardner Edgerton High School parents are welcoming foreign exchange students to join the local community. Others are sending their students abroad for the year.
Two GEHS students, Minnie Wedding and Ryan Billups are headed overseas for the junior year of high school. Wedding will depart for Spain and Billups is headed to Italy.
Both are excited about a learning about a new country and culture.
Meanwhile, GEHS will welcome Anna Marie Coleone from Sicily and Amanda Pueblo Fernandez from Chile.
The students have been chosen by the Rotary International program. The program considers academic achievements and interviews to select students for the overseas learning adventure.
Robert Thompson is the inbound coordinator for Rotary International in Gardner.
Students can choose a country to travel to ad spend their year at a high school abroad, Thompson said of the program.
Students interested in the Rotary foreign exchange program should contact the high school counselor. The local Rotary Club will host a meeting about the program at GEHS in September or October.
