Emery Eugene “Hub” Wheeler

Emery Eugene “Hub” Wheeler, 79, of Gardner, Kan. passed away Oct. 19, 2013 at his home.
Hub was born Oct. 2, 1934 in Augusta, Kan. to William E. and Mary Frances Hartup Wheeler. He grew up in Topeka and graduated from Jennings High School.
Hub served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. He worked at a Mobil Oil refinery in Augusta. After his retirement he moved to Gardner in the late 1970’s to care for his mother.
Hub worked in construction and did odd jobs for families and friends, also helping at Bruce Funeral Home. He was an avid sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Frances Britton and Billie Jo Wheeler, and brother Dale Wheeler.
Hub is survived by sister Romona Howard and his many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Oct. 22, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913)856-7111. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 23, 2013 in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, Kan. Memorial contributions may be given to the Emery Wheeler Memorial Fund.
