Elvia “Jean” Huffman

Elvia “Jean” Huffman, 87, of Edgerton, Kan., passed away July 28, 2013 at her home.

Jean was born July 10, 1926 in Manchester, Kan. to Ivy Merton and Anna Marie (Luker) Burgess. She was raised in Manchester and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School.

Jean married Charles Raymond Huffman and they lived in Abilene, Kan. They moved to Thayer, Mo., Solomon, Kan. and back to Abilene. She moved to Edgerton to be with her daughter in 2006.

Jean worked in the restaurant business for Wagon Wheel, Green Acres Strike & Dine, Sirloin Stockade and her last position at Pizza Hut in Abilene. She also co-owned a Dairy Queen in Thayer, Mo. with her husband. She was a hard worker and Jean loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles; daughter Sharon Hall; son Rodney Jerome Huffman; siblings: Mary Belle Flood, Lorene Cole, Bill Burgess, and Robert Burgess; and her daughter-in-law Vickie Huffman.

Jean is survived by her children: Timothy Raymond Huffman, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Charles Stanley Huffman and Teresa, of Salina, Kan., and Nancy Ann Huffman, of Edgerton; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, (913)856-7111. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation will follow after the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be given at www.brucefuneralhome.com.
