Edgerton City Council members approved a shipping container storage lot during at Sept. 26 meeting.
The storage lot will be located on the northeast corner of Waverly and 191st Street.
As part of the approval process, the council rezoned the 30-acre parcel from rural to logistics park zoning.
Edgerton annexed the property at a previous meeting. The land sits on the east side of Waverly Road, which Gardner and Edgerton councils once debated using as a dividing line between the two cities. However, the two cities never formally adopted an annexation agreement detailing future boundaries.
During the 30-minute council meeting Sept. 30, Edgerton council members also approved a final plat and a conditional permit that will allow the parcel’s owners to run a cargo storage lot there.
“They’re going to start small and do a parking facility,” city administrator Beth Linn told council members.
The property owners intend to build a five-plus acre asphalt parking lot to house storage containers within the next month or so. They are targeting a Nov. 15 date to open the storage container business.
Linn said as part of the development agreement, the owners have agreed they will participate in a benefit district in the future to make improvements to Waverly Road. In the meantime, Linn said the property will be served by a gravel Waverly Road.
