Donna Lee Hughes

Donna Lee Hughes, 66, passed away Sept. 24, 2013 at Olathe Medical Center.

Donna was born Sept. 7, 1947 in Paola, Kan. to Jess and Hazel (Stultz) Battersby. She grew up in Osawatomie where she graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1965. Donna married Donald R. Hughes, Sr., on May 29, 1965 in Paola. After marriage they moved to the Kansas City area and then to Olathe in 1978 and to Spring Hill in 1995.

She was employed by Time Warner Cable in Kansas City, Mo. for 29 years; retiring in 2012. Donna was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and liked working in the garden. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, and her special dogs. Donna will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; half-brothers Dwayne, Donald and Billy; and half-sisters Marie, Maxine and Myrtle.

Donna is survived by her husband Donald, of the home; children: Cheryl Koehn and husband Daniel, of Pittsburg, Kan., Donald Hughes, Jr. and wife Marcia, of DeKalb, Mo., David Hughes and wife Sallee, of Spring Hill, Kan. and Curtis Hughes and wife Jenny, of Garnett, Kan.; 14 grandchildren and sister Martha Gibson, of Blue Springs, Mo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Sept. 27, 2013 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 555 W. Main, Gardner, KS 66030. Burial follows at Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, Kan. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sept., 26, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913)856-7111 with a Rosary at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Divine Mercy Building Fund.
