Matti Diener, senior and featured twirler at GEHS, was recently invited to be a Delegate to Peru for the International Festival of Springtime in Trujillo.
Matti will leave Gardner Sept. 20 and be involved in twirling at parades, sporting events and entertainment venues until Oct. 1.  She will also meet several dignataries and attend formal dinners.
One purpose of the festival is to support Trujillo ‘s charities. Twirlers have been asked to bring school supplies for some 100 orphans. GEHS band members have offered a variety of items and the Johnson County Horse club is also providing funds and support. If you would like to offer support contact Arvest bank in Gardner-care of the Gardner Lions club.
Matti is being supported locally by the Gardner Lions Club. The Lions have provided funds for airfare to and from Florida.  Also providing funds are area Lions Zones, including Eudora, Lawrence, Baldwin, Osawatomie, and Paola.
Diener is only one of 15 girls from the United States chosen to perform at the Festival events and parades. It is a very high honor to represent her school, state, community and country.

Comments

  1. Jerry L Kellogg Sr says:

Not only is she a championship twirler, Matti is also an award-winning equestrian sportswoman and outstanding player on her varsity volleyball team. Her dad proclaimed a couple of years ago that Matti was the most talented athlete in the Diener family. Topping her accomplishments, however, is Matti’s academic status as an honor roll student at GEHS!

  2. Sollicitus Civis says:

She will, without a doubt, represent Gardner well! Congrats to her!!
