Defense was the key as the Pioneer Ridge Middle School eighth grade boys varsity basketball squad turned back cross town rivals Wheatridge Middle School, 38-17, Feb. 7.
PRMS, 5-4, jumped to an early 8-4 first-quarter lead and went up 16-11 by halftime. A 14-4, third-quarter Pioneer Ridge run sealed the verdict.
β€œI thought the team had a real nice defensive effort,” said Coach Kevin Collins. β€œIt was a team win.”
Leading the way once again was Jace Sprague who scored 13 points and collected five steals.
Tydus Webb added nine points, and Leon Gaeta, eight points. Matt Layng had four points and four steals. Luke Laskowski and Tucker Tribble had two points.
It will be a busy week with games against Lexington Trail and Louisburg.
