On May 22, 2018 about 8:35 p.m., Fire District #1 Of Johnson County responded to the 100 block of S. Pine St. in Gardner for a reported house fire.
While units were enroute, callnotes advised that everyone was out excluding one pet. It was also stated that there was live ammunition inside the residence which could be heard going off. Multiple units could see smoke showing from a long distance away while responding.
First arriving units found a residential home with fire and smoke showing. Crews were able to make a quick transitional attack from the outside of the home and then moved inside to extinguish the fire completely. Everyone made it out safely excluding one pet which perished during the fire. A home adjacent to the original dispatched address received some heat damage to the siding.
Also responding to the fire were Johnson County Med-Act, Johnson County Fire District No. 2, Northwest Consolidated Fire District, Gardner Police Department and American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City.
