County hosting New Century Day this weekend

New Century could be one of Johnson County’s best kept secrets. Thousands of people work there every day, and it houses an airport, a County jail, and a premier indoor sports facility. On Saturday, April 26, the public is invited to New Century Day…a chance to take plane rides, get behind-the-scenes tours and see some of the County’s big rigs.

Adult Detention Center at New Century (27745 W 159th St.)
Johnson County Sheriff’s Office staff will give hour-long tours of the jail at 11:00 and 1:30

Adult Residential Center (101 Roeland Park Dr.)
The Johnson County Department of Corrections will give tours of the Adult Residential Center at 10:30 and 11:30.

 New Century AirCenter

  • Advanced Aviation (5 Aero Plaza) and Commemorative Air Force (6 Aero Plaza) will sponsor an Open House at Advanced Aviation and CAF Hangar. CAF will be offering rides in their WWII PT19 (per passenger fee); weather permitting. Lunch will be provided for a fee in the CAF Hangar.
  • New Century Air Service (2 Aero Plaza) to sponsor an Open House, tours, display of aircraft, and airplane rides (per passenger fee).

New Century Fieldhouse (551 New Century Pkwy, New Century)

This is a great opportunity to see Johnson County’s. Tours of Johnson County’s premier indoor sports and multi-use facility will take place at 10 am, noon and 2 pm.

Johnson County Big Rigs (Adult Detention Center parking lot, 27745 W 159th St)

  • Ambulances
  • Inmate Buses
  • Mobile Command Center
  • Armored Personnel carrier
  • Squad car
  • Snow plow
  • Road grader

New Century Day is part of Johnson County Government’s month-long 30 Days of JoCo campaign, aimed at making sure Johnson County residents have the chance to learn about all of the programs and services the County offers.
