County commissioners redistricted the boundaries for seats on the Johnson County Board of Commissioners last week.
State law requires the commission to reconsider boundaries every three years. Board members began discussing redistricting in 2012. At the time, the existing boundaries were in compliance with apportionment laws, but commissioners determined the lines would be out of whack by 2014.
Under the newly-adopted plan, Gardner, Edgerton, De Soto and part of Olathe remain in the sixth district and continue to be represented by John Toplikar. Spring Hill continues to be a part of the third district along with parts of Overland Park and Stillwell. Steve Klika represents the third district on the board of county commissioners.
According to county analysis, the newly-drawn boundaries should keep the county in compliance with state law through 2018 and possibly beyond.
