The Gardner Rotary Club is sponsoring Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) at Johnson County Fire District No. 1’s New Century AirCenter station. Pictured is Cherlyn White-Conklin, Rotary president. The program trains volunteers to identify and anticipate hazards, extinguish small fires, assist emergency responders, conduct light search and rescue, set up medical treatment areas and help reduce survivor stress. Enrollment for the current class is closed, but Delbert Sawyer, organizer, said past CERT graduates are welcome to sit in as a refresher course. The class meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evenings at the New Century fire station.
