Divine Mercy Church will expand in Gardner.
Planners forwarded a recommendation to city council to approve a site plan for an addition to the church at 555 W. Main Street.
The add-on will include kitchen, office, storage and multi-purpose space. It will also increase parking at the church, adding 101 spaces to the existing 148-space parking lot.
The multi-purpose supplement is phase two of a five phase plan for the church.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kan., requested approval of a site plan from planning commissioners during a Dec. 17 meeting.
The church submitted a similar plan in 2009, though the project was never started. The original site plan expired.
In other business, planning commissioners:
• conducted a public hearing to consider rezoning 5.68 acres at 1076, 1084, 1092 and 1098 E. Santa Fe Street, or Gardner Auto Body & Storage, from C-3, commercial, to MP-1, restricted industrial district.
• approved a preliminary plat for approximately 4.71 acres at Gardner Auto Body & Storage for an industrial development. The development will add storage units at 1098 E. Santa Fe.
City council members will be asked to approve the planning commission’s recommendations at a later date.
