A group of local businesses plans to pay it forward to one lucky Gardner resident. They will provide a make-over including an eye brow wax, hair cut, photo shoot, massage and body wrap for someone in need.
“It’s just to make someone feel really good about themselves,” Teresa Smith, a local stylist, said.
She is seeking nominations via Facebook.
For example, she said the group is looking for nominees who may be stuck in a styling rut or someone who doesn’t have time to care for themselves because they’re busy caring for young children or an ill relative.
“We’re trying to get people to nominate people they know who deserve this special treatment,” Smith said.
She came up with the idea to pay it forward by watching the television show, Tabatha Takes Over. The reality show features a hair salon owner who rescues failing beauty salons.
Smith said on the show Tabatha tells salon owners to give back to their communities.
“They give so much to us,” Smith explained.
Nominees will be accepted on the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Designco Gardner, KS. To nominate someone for the prize valued at $300, guests can nominate someone using only their first name and a brief description of why the person deserves the extreme local makeover.
Smith said they are only asking for first names on the public page, because some people may not be comfortable sharing their stories with everyone on social media.
Salon staff will select a winner on Oct. 31 and contact the person who made the nomination.
