Brownlee interviewed for JCCC board

Former  state Sen. Karin Brownlee, who represented Gardner and Edgerotn and parts of Olathe in the Kansas Senate, applied for a position on the Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees. She hoped to replace former trustee Melody Rayl who resigned from the board in July.
Current trustees selected Rayl’s replacement. Thirteen people applied to fill the vacancy, and the board  interviewed four finalists during a special meeting on Sept. 26.
The finalists included Brownlee, of Olathe; Robert Drummond, of Olathe, the CEO of TLC; Michael Lally, of Overland, the vice president of Olsson Associates; and Steven Wolf of Prairie Village, the CEO of Wolf Properties.
Candidates were given five minutes to introduce themselves and board members had an additional 15 minutes to ask questions.
The board selected Drummond to serve the remainder of Rayl’s term, set to expire on June 30, 2017. Durmmond will be seated during the Oct. 17 board of trustees meeting.
Other candidates included David Flora, Overland Park; Shirly Kleiner, Olathe; Eric Laverentz, Overland Park; Robert McElwain, Prairie Village; Miguel Morales, Olathe; Jeffrey Ray, Leawood; Robin Royals, Shawnee; Marlene Tignor, Overland Park; and Steven Wiebler, Overland Park.
