Optimism abounds around the Spring Hill High School football program as Head Coach Anthony Orrick returns for his fifth season.
Orrick led the Broncos to five wins and its first district title since 2000 a year ago. The team also made its way to the 4A state playoffs for the first time since 2006.
“We expect to keep things going in the right direction, improve on last year’s record, and make a run on the state playoffs,” Orrick said.
Orrick will look to senior quarterback Trevor Cluck to lead the way. Senior running backs Lincoln Smith and Trevian Bryant will provide power as well as junior tailback Tydus Heinrich.
When Cluck throws, his aerials will be directed at tight-end Drew Cygan and wide receiver Trevor Spichal.
Providing up-front running room will be offensive line man Cristian Esparza, Kainon- Laingley – Clark, Zack Mayhan, Dylan Thompson and C.J. Dyhouse.
Defensively, three starters return this year, including defensive-end Clark, Linebacker, Blake Hampton and cornerback Austin Jager.
“Several sophomores and juniors we expect to step up and be leaders. The kids have been working hard in practice,” added Orrick.
The squad’s first test comes Sept. 6 against Louisburg.
