Paola scored midway through the fourth quarter and escaped with a 16-14 Frontier League win at Spring Hill, Sept 14.
With the loss, Spring Hill dropped to 1-2 and will meet Baldwin Friday night in another key league matchup. Paola also owns a 1-2 record and returns home to host Eudora.
“Overall, I was pleased with the effort,” said coach Anthony Orrick. It was a great game and I thought we made some good strides. We need to get ready for another tough challenge at Baldwin.”
Paola held a 10-7 halftime lead. The Broncos score came on a Jacob McDade touchdown run and extra point kick by Niles Kahn. That score held up until a Michael Epp third quarter touchdown run gave Spring Hill a shortlived 14-10 lead. Paola sealed the verdict with a TD run of their own in the fourth quarter.
Next comes Baldwin, still smarting from a tough loss to St. James. The Bulldogs have a balanced attack and like to throw the ball a bit more than usual. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Emil Liston stadium on the Baker University campus.
