Spring Hill High School’s Dylan Brenneman will be making a trip to the 4A state cross country meet after placing first in last week’s regional meet in Baldwin.
Brenneman took gold in a 5k time of 16:16 minutes. He will represent Spring Hill at the State meet in Wamego on Saturday.
Other regional runners on the SHHS boys team include Trey Mathis, who took 27th place, Trevor North, who finished in 37th place, Michael Herman, who crossed the finish line in 51st place, and Noah Nemer, who finished in 55th place.
All told, the Bronco boys scored 171 points and took seventh place in the team standings.
For the girls, Ashley Ingram took 16th place in a time of 21:20 minutes. Allison Kosberg wasn’t far behind Ingram. Kosberg finished in 34th place. Ash Fahrnow was hot on her heels, finishing in 38th place. Meghan Goff crossed the finish line in 45th place, and Lauren Wilson finished in 47th place.
As a team, the Bronco girls finished eighth in the team standings with 169 points.
“Our kids ran very fast at regional,” said SHHS Coach Brent Smitheran. “But we came up short of getting our team to the state meet. We faced tremendous deep fields on both sides, and our kids competed very well against them. We are excited about having our full varsity squad back next year.”
