Gardner-Edgerton High School senior-to-be Casey Bowen cleared 16’0″ to highlight an impressive performance by locals at the 1st Annual Gardner Summer Street Vault, Aug. 6.
Bowen was one of 19 area vaulters ranging in age from eight to 28 that participated in the event. Competition began at 3:30 and continued til nearly 8 p.m. on a raised runway in the north parking lot of Gardner Elementary.
“Everyone had a lot of fun and several kids set personal bests,” said Thane Nonamaker, event organizer. “We would like to have the event next year, perhaps on the final day of the fair.”
Besides Bowen, GEHS senior-to-be Tommy Brady topped a personal best 15’0″ and former Blazer great Isaac Mallory (K-State sophomore) cleared 15’6″.
Cassie Wait, who won the 5A state title last spring, cleared 11’6″ and Jamie House, a three-time 4A champ of El Dorado, cleared a personal best 12’6″. Emily Brigham of Mill Valley topped 12’0″.
