Bowen sets state pole vault record of 16’6”

Gardner Edgerton High School senior Casey Bowen made the most of his last state 5A track appearance, setting a new state pole vault record of 16’6″ for first place. That eclipsed former Trailblazer Isaac Mallory’s mark by three inches. Competition took place at Cessna Stadium in Wichita for classes 1-6A boys and girls.
Fellow senior Tommy Brady cleared 14’6″ for third place and Ryan Weisenburger’s 13’6″ effort was good enough for seventh place.
“We scored 17 of our 20 points in the pole vault,” Coach Brian McGee said. “I was real pleased with our effort.”
GEHS’ 20 point team total tied Schlagle for 10th place in the standings. Hays won the title with 98 points.
The other ‘Blazer scoring came from Marcus Williams (sixth, 110 hurdles, 15.84) and Tim Seymour (seventh, 300 hurdles in 43.05).
