Pioneer Ridge Middle School eighth grader Garrett Borth  turned in an impressive performance as a member of the Football University East Kansas All-Star team.
Borth played middle linebacker and served as team captain for a Kansas team that advanced to second round national tournament play in Wichita.
The team’s trek to Wichita began with a second place finish in the Mid-States Tournament in Olathe. From there, the team took first place honors in the NYSSO National tournament in Lawrence.
That earned Borth and the Football University East Kansas All-Star team a trip to Nationals in Wichita.
After a first round win against Midland, Texas, the team ended its season with a loss to Louisiana.
Borth was nominated for the FBU team three years ago by Gardner Edgerton Hgih School assistant coach John Bass. He played for the East Kansas All- Star team in 2012 and attended exclusive FBU camps in Texas and Ohio. The Ohio camp was by invitation and nomination only for those that shined at Top Gun camps. He was one of only 1,500 athletes nationwide in sixth through senior year invited to the Top Gun camps.
Last fall, Borth was part of a PRMS eighth grade football team that completed a two- year undefeated run. He currently is a member of the PRMS varsity basketball team and continues offseason weight training and conditioning.
He also regularly attends workout sessions at the Simoneau Sports academy in Overland Park. Garrett is the son of Wally and Dawn Borth of Gardner.
