Blazers win Paola tennis title

The Blazers won both the number one and two doubles competition and captured first place honors in the Paola Round Robin tournament last week.
Micah VanVleet and Dylan Meeks posted a perfect 3-0 record in number one doubles competition and the Blazers number two team of Jeff Swartz and Cameron Miller also took first place with a 3-0 mark.
In number one singles competition, Brad Allen had a 1-3 record but his one victory proved to be the margin of victory for the Blazers. Jacob Boring also had a 1-3 mark in number two singles.
“Brad’s win actually gave us just enough points to win the team title,” said Coach Jon Collum.  It was a timely win over his Spring Hill opponent.”
In a home quadrangular April 3, the Blazers got a number one singles victory from Brad Allen. The number one doubles of Van Vleet and Meeks went 0-3 on the day but pushed Blue Valley Northwest to the brink before bowing 8-5. The duo dropped a hard fought 8-7, 7-3 tiebreaker to Olathe South.
In number two doubles, Swartz and Cameron Miller lost to Blue Valley Northwest, 8-6 and Olathe South, 8-7,7-5.
“The kids are showing a lot of improvement and we should be in good shape for regionals,” said Collum. I am real encouraged with our team progress.”
Next action comes April 9-11 at the Bonner Springs Invitational.
