Blazers U11 AAA compete at state tournament

The U11 GE Blazers were a top-ranked AA team and were elevated to a AAA level team at the end of the 2011 season.
With an overall record of 30-14, the Blazers went to the Kansas State AAA Tournament held in Gardner this year at Celebration Park.
The young Blazers had a very good showing in their first AAA appearance.
The Blazers went 2-1 in the state tournament play making it to the quarter finals and finishing eighth among 21 teams.
The highlight of the tournament was the Blazers’ 3-1 win over the second-seeded team, the Topeka Storm.
Strong pitching was a key to the Blazers’ success by Tyler Henry, Luke Laskowski, and Emilio Oropeza.
Coaches Plankenhorn and Stubblefield said the overall success of the entire year goes to all of the boys for competing in every game whether winning or losing.
“For a first year team to compete in AA ball then to be advanced to AAA ball showed that the boys were focused, competed and were determined to play hard,” Plankenhorn said.
The U11 Blazers will be holding tryouts for the upcoming year for the U12 2012 season at the GE High School on the JV field from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July  11-13.
Players wanting to try out for the AAA team are encouraged to attend the three-day tryout.
