A strong second half comeback lifted the Blazer varsity boys basketball team to a 52-45 win over Blue Valley West in East Kansas league play last week.
GEHS, 10-10, trailed by two points midway through the fourth quarter when senior Will Cook connected on a two point basket to tie the game. Junior Chad Enright followed with a three pointer to give GEHS a lead it would never relinquish.
“Chad Enright stepped up and gave us a clutch basket,” said Coach Jeff Langehr.
GEHS salted the game away with clutch free throw shooting by Josh Lang down the stretch.
Hultgren led the way with 16 points, while Cook added 14 points. Brett Wright provided steady play at the point guard position and chipped in 10 points. Josh Lang had four points while Enright and Devon Toomey had three points. Sean Callahan had two points.
“It was a big win for us versus West and positioned us for a higher seed in sub-state play,” added Langehr. I was real proud of our interior defensive play and we got some excellent contributions from our bench players.”
