Blazers soccer season comes to a close

The season recently came to a close for Coach Jerad Gorney and his Blazers girls  varsity soccer squad.
Playing their final games of their career were seniors Brooke Thompson, Peka Ploetz and Gabby Ortman. Thompson, who will play soccer at Millikin University in DeCatur, Ill.,  next year, was a captain on the team and the anchor on defense.
Ploetz will play at Butler Community College next fall.  Also a captain, Ploetz was a top midfelder and defensive specialist. Ortman played the mid field position and consistent performer for the Blazers throughout her career.
“We will miss our seniors and wish them the best of luck in college,” said Coach Gorney. “We have a talented group returning and look forward to next season.”
Gorney  will look to sophomore Dani Clark to fill Thompson’s role on defense. Junior Rachel Bovitz will return as goalie, and junior Sierra Henricks will be an anchor on defense. Marissa Ward and Savannah Hallier return as forwards. Hallier led the team in scoring last season. Sophomore Maria Vite returns as a mid fielder and two freshmen, Blair Pfeifer and Lyric Henderson will add depth to the roster.
