After nearly a month of practice, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazers will host Shawnee Mission East in its season opener Friday.
Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at the district stadium
GEHS finished the season last year with an 8-2 record. They wrapped the 2013 season in a loss at the regional championship to Olathe East High School.
In the 2014 season opener, the Blazers face Shawnee Mission East, a squad ranked second in the state. East lost in the 6A state title game last year, and returns 16 starters including quarterback Gunnar England and lineman James Woolridge, Devin Price and Kevin Ball.
