Dominating from start to finish, the Blazers wrapped up their second East Kansas league title in four years with a 56-14 win over Blue Valley North on Home Coming night, Oct. 11.
Senior running back Traevohn Wrench led the way with 341 yards on 24 carries and four touchdowns.
Equally impressive was quarterback Jared Hobby who connected on nine of 15 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.
Hobby started the scoring parade connecting with Josh Lang on a 22 yard pass early in the first quarter. Tim Mitchell added a successful extra point kick to put GEHS up 7-0.
Three minutes later, Marshall Wade put GEHS up 14-0 with a nice 19 yard touchdown run. Wade’s touchdown run culminated a four play, 75 yard drive.
Wrench’s 37 yard touchdown run gave GEHS a 21-0 first quarter lead.
Up 21-0, GEHS added two second quarter scores. Wrench scored from 38 yards out and Hobby connected with Deontre Kendrick on a 28 yard scoring strike just before halftime.
Wrench went back to work in the third quarter scoring on touchdown runs of 45 yards and one yard.
The Blazers final score came on a nice five yard scoring strike from reserve quarterback Colton Mullin to Kyle Hultgren.
North finally notched the scoring column with a pair of touchdowns from Dante Hanks.
All told, GEHS accumulated 635 yards of offense to North’s 235. It was the second time this season GEHS put up 56 points in a game.
Now 5-1, GEHS begins 6A district play at Olathe District Stadium, Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
