The Gardner Edgerton High School boys varsity basketball team fell behind 17-9 in the first quarter and never recovered losing at Olathe North 71-53, Dec. 17.
“Olathe North provided some very tough matchups for us with their athleticism and length,” said coach Jeff Langrehr. “We struggled to finish shots inside and couldn’t seem to find a groove from the perimeter either.”
Despite the offensive woes, GEHS pulled within 29-22 by halftime and trailed just 46-38 at the end of three quarters. North took control with a 25-15 fourth quarter run.
“We lost our composure and the game got out of hand. They are a very good basketball team,” Langrehr said.
GEHS struggled from behind the three-point arc sinking just 3 of 16 shots. The Blazers connected on 12 of 20 shots from the free-throw line.
Senior Traevohn Wrench led the Blazers scoring with 17 points, while Josh Lang added 14 points. Kyle Holtgren had 13 points. Brett Wright had five points, Sean Callahan, three and Will Cook, one point.
