Blazer track season begins at SMS

After nearly a month of preparation, the Blazer track season will begin at the Shawnee Mission South High School Invitational, April 5.
On the boys side, Gardner Edgerton High School track Coach Brian McGee will look to senior sprinter Jaylon Radel to provide leadership for a young, but talented squad.
Radel has already signed a football and track scholarship at Emporia State University. He clocked 10.9 seconds at 100 meters last spring to take second place in the Eastern Kansas League. He also earned a medal as part of the GEHS 100-meter relay squad.
Other top returners include pole vaulters Jake McIntyre and Conner McGuire.
For the girls, veteran coach Larry Ward has a top pole vaulter returning in Abby Buie as well as hurdler Taylor Claybon.
Other returning state qualifiers are middle distance runners Sierra Coen, and Miranda Tenove; javelin-thrower Jill Starling; Katie Groshong,a distance runner;  Macy Elkinton at shot put; and Karli Smith, a pole vaulter.
