Blazer soccer season comes to a close

A 4-0 loss to Olathe East  in the Northeast Regional championship Nov. 3 brought the season to a close for Coach Andy Weber and his Gardner Edgerton boys varsity soccer squad.
GEHS trailed just 1-0 at halftime but saw East take control with three second half goals.
“Our guys played tough and allowed just one goal in the first 40 minutes,” said Weber. We saw better possessions in the second half but lacked any scoring threats. Despite the loss. I am so proud of the kids effort this season.”
Despite the loss, GEHS ended the season at 10-8-0, just one shy of the program’s record. It was the team’s best overall record since joining the East Kansas league four years ago.
GEHS scored 41 goals and allowed 37 this season. Dakota Steuber led the way tying a school record 11 goals in a season. He is tied with Eddie Suarez and Ondrej Pazkirck (2008),
Three players entered the Blazer Soccer top 10 point earners this season. Luke Fisher ranks as number three followed by Steuber (8) and Kalyn Ahrens (9).
An outstanding season came from senior goalie Cole Boers. Boers posted four shutouts.
“Cole moved into the goalie position when Alexis Nunez moved to California. He adjusted to the position well in a position he had never played. He did an excellent job for us.
