The Blazer freshman boys football squad jumped to a 14-13 first-half lead and held on for a 27-13 win at Blue Valley West Oct. 3rd.
Gardner Edgerton High School, 3-1, went up 14-0 thanks to two Hunter Skeens touchdowns. Quarterback Griffin Johns also tossed a successful two-point conversion pass to Jared Highfill.
Back came West with two second quarter touchdowns to pull within 14-13 by halftime.
GEHS answered with a third quarter touchdown to go up 20-13. Jonas Pippitt carried over a touchdown but fumbled into the end zone. Fortunately, Nick Salpas recovered the fumble.
Trailing 20-13, West went to work with their passing game. The Jags drove deep into Blazer territory with just four minutes remaining. Only to see the Blazer defense react.
D-back Jared Highfill broke up a near touchdown pass and two plays later Skeens sealed the win returning an interception for a touchdown.
Now 4-1, GEHS remains home to host Blue Valley North, Oct. 8th.
