A senior-dominated Gardner Edgerton High School football squad starts the season Sept. 6 at rival Blue Valley High School in the metro game of the week, which will be televised.
Led by senior quarterback Jared Hobby and senior running back Traevohn Wrench, the Blazers enter the 2013 campaign rated number two in the Eastern Kansas League (EKL) and number six in the 6A-state division.
Wrench, already committed to play football next year at the University of Kansas, was one of the top eleven All- State, All-Class running backs a year ago and an Eastern Kansas League Offensive Player of the Year.
He was a first team All-EKL selection, first team all-metro selection, and first team all-6A team.
Hobby, a three-year starting quarterback will engineer one of the area’s top offensive teams.
On defense, GEHS will have seniors Logan Powell, Dustin Williams and Tommy McLennan.
With 20 returning seniors- distributed evenly on both offense and defense, the Blazers should make a strong 6A title run.
