Using balanced scoring, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer boys and girls track teams finished third in their home invitational track meet last week.
For the girls, Taylor Claybon had a big day. She grabbed gold in the 300-meter hurdles in posting a time of 47.72 seconds. She took second in the 200 meters in 27.4 seconds, and finished third with a time of 13.1 seconds in the 100-meters.
Equally impressive were the Lady Blazers pole vaulters. Abby Buie cleared 9-feet, 6-inches to claim first, while Karli Smith took second clearing 9-feet. Kayla Burcham took fourth clearing 8-feet.
Another gold went to Abby Buie with a 128-feet, 6-inch javelin throw. Jill Starling took fifth place in javelin.
Hannah Culbertson continued to excel in the discus event with a third place toss of 106-feet,2-inches, and Marissa Gray added fourth-place points.
Abbie Lane took third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.24 seconds. She also gathered a bronze in the 3200-meter relay.
Other fourth-place finishers included Cortlyn Tryon in the 400-meter run, Lauren Strick in the shot put.
All told, the lady Blazers accumulated 93 points for third place team finish behind runner-up Paola High School with 120 points and team champion Olathe East High School with 185 points.
On the boys side, Jaylon Radel led the way with a gold-medal time of 11.1 seconds in the 100 meters. He also took fourth in the 200-meters with a time of 23.2 seconds.
The Blazer boys swept the pole vault. Kyle Stubler took first clearing 13-feet. He was followed by and Conner McGuire and Jake McIntire also with 13-foot clearances.
Jared Bartlett took third in the javelin with a throw of 160-feet, 2-inches, and Andrew Sprague took third in the discus with a toss of 148-feet.
Trey Smith added fourth-place points in the long jump.
The Blazers brought home a silver medal in the 400-meter relay with a time of 43.8 seconds. GEHS’ boys 1600-relay squad took fifth.
Teamwise, Olathe East took first by a 131-121 margin over runner-up Paola. The GEHS boys took third place with 72 points, placing the squad ahead of Blue Valley Southwest High School, Mill Valley High School, Olathe Northwest High School and Louisburg High School.
