Gardner Edgerton High School crowned two champions and posted nine personal bests en route to a third-place finish at the Olathe Invitational on April 6.
“This was a preview of our 6A regional versus the Olathe schools and we performed real well,” said coach Brian McGee. “This was our highest finish here in 10 years.”
All told, Olathe East took the team title by a 144-131 margin versus Olathe North. GEHS took third with 127 ½; Olathe South had 117 ½; Hutchinson, 76 ½; Olathe Northwest, 53; and Washburn Rural, 38 ½.
Leading the way was Ryan Weisenberger with a gold medal 14’0″ pole vault.
The other gold belonged to the 3200 relay of Luke Fischer, Dewey Molenda, Omar Quintana, and Chris Kreiser. The foursome toured Olathe’s oval in a time of 8:31.81.
Silver medals went to Josh Rhodes (discus, 128’2″); Jake Hamm (pole vault, 14’0″); and Marcus Williams (110 hurdles, 15.43).
Third-place awards went to Anthony Seymour (long jump, 21′ 1 3/4″) and Ben Carpenter (pole vault, 13’6″).
Next action comes April 13 at the Shawnee Mission Northwest triangular.
