Battling until the end, the Gardner Edgerton High School varsity baseball squad dropped its home doubleheader opener to Ottawa High School and St. James Academy.
In the opener, pitchers Carter Hoehn and Grason Cavner suffered a 4-1 defeat to Ottawa.
Despite the loss, Nolan Beets had a double and single, while Spencer Scalzi collected two singles and an RBI.
In the nightcap, St. James scored a 9-0 win over the Blazers.
Now 0-2, GEHS got back to action March 30 versus Blue Valley High Schools. Scores were not posted at press time.
