Baumgartner replaces former Senator Pat Apple

Molly Baumgartner was elected as Senator during a precinct members’ meeting April 21.
Baumgartner replaces  Sen. Pat Apple who was sworn-in as the newest member of the Kansas Corporation Commission on April 11.
Apple, a Louisburg Republican, recently  resigned from the Senate. He represented the 37th District, which includes the southern part of Gardner and all of Edgerton in the Kansas Senate.
Candidates included Baumgardner and Charlotte O’Hara. Baumgardner is the journalism and media communications coordinator at Johnson County Community College and served on the JCCC Board of Trustees. O’Hara served in the Kansas House and ran against Apple during the 2012 Republican primary. Apple’s replacement will serve in Apple’s Senate seat until January 2015. Apple’s Senate term runs through 2016. However, 37th district voters will have the opportunity to elect someone to represent them for the final two years of Apple’s term in the 2014 November general election.
