Barbara Ann Cordell James

Barbara Ann Cordell James, 72, of Lenexa, Kan. passed away Aug. 24, 2014 at Covenant Place of Lenexa.

Barbara was born July 2, 1942 in Kansas City, Mo. to Vorden Dale and Rose Pauline (Wiggin) Cordell. She grew up in Gardner, graduating from Gardner High School in 1960.

She married John Robert James on Sept. 21, 1961 in Gardner. They then moved to Olathe on the James’ family farm.

Later in life Barbara went on to JCCC and received her Associate’s Degree as a paralegal. For seventeen years, Barbara worked as a Clerk for the Johnson County District Court as a Trustee for child support.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Olathe and the Good Sam RV Club. Barbara enjoyed being active by playing softball, bowling, playing cards and traveling. Her favorite thing to do was eat out. Barbara also enjoyed visiting with family and friends; she was a real people person. She will be dearly missed.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Vorden Cordell and Pauline Cordell Atwood; brother, Jerry Cordell; and sister, Jeanne Porter.

She is survived by her children: John Dale (Angie) James, of Orlando, Fla. and Stacy Leigh James, of Lenexa, Kan. and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Aug. 28, 2014 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS 66030 (913)856-7111. Burial will follow in Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, Kan. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27, 2014 also at the funeral home.
