Cameron Kirchner

Cameron Kirchner, 18, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Cameron was born July 12, 1998 in Olathe to Melissa Kay Howard and Christopher Eugene Kirchner. He grew up in De Soto and Gardner, attending Gardner Edgerton High School and was a 2016 graduate from Lawrence Virtual School. Cameron was a mechanic and he worked in Kansas and Missouri for Icon Window Washer, a company headquartered in St. Louis. He enjoyed fishing, playing soccer, working on cars and tinkering with electrical items. Cameron loved helping people. He was very close to his brother and helped him in many ways. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Issiah “Jamon” Turner Pendergrass, 18, of Gardner, Kan passed away February 18, 2017. Jamon was born April 7, 1998 in West Plains, Mo to Misty Lea (Pendergrass) Gant and Christopher William Turner. He moved to Gardner when he was eight and he was a 2016 graduate of Gardner Edgerton High School. He was an insulator for GFI in Lawrence, KS. Jamon previously was a pizza artist for Pie 5 and Papa Murphy’s. He played basketball and football at Wheatridge Middle School. At Gardner Edgerton High School he became involved in the theatre department. He enjoyed drawing sketches, playing the guitar and writing poems. Jamon was known by all who knew and loved him for the light that came from within him, his infectious smile and his ability and desire to help anyone who needed his help. Wanda Irene Meek, 89, passed away February 19, 2017, at Assisted Life Styles of BlackHawk in Spring Hill, Kan. Wanda was born in Spring Hill on January 10, 1928 to Frona (Coffey) and Howard Isaac Skinner. She was a lifetime area resident and graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1945. Wanda married Ernest H. Meek on April 29, 1946 in Olathe, KS. To them were born four children. She loved having all the family together. Wanda enjoyed sewing, working with flowers, music, using the computer, cooking and serving her Lord. She was a secretary at school for nine years and a church secretary for five years. She also worked for 10 years at the Johnson County Courthouse. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest, son Ernest Alan, daughter Bonnie Jean, granddaughter Jennifer Meek and brothers Clifford, Lester, Virgil, Homer and Howard Skinner. Wanda is survived by her children John and Janet Meek of Lacon, Ill, and Stephen Meek of S. D; son-in-law Gary Landes of Hillsdale, Kan; six grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Dennis “Denny” LaVern Pritchard

Dennis “Denny” LaVern Pritchard, 62, of Gardner, Kan passed away Feb. 14, 2017 at Veteran’s Hospital, KCMO. Denny was born May 23, 1954 in Austin, TX to Dale “Sandy” Allen and Mary Opal (Klamm) Pritchard. He was a life-long area resident of Johnson County and a graduate of Gardner Edgerton High School. Denny was a Seabee with the United States Navy. He was a retired member of the Ironworkers Union, Local #10 where he worked as a rod man. After retiring, he worked as a truck driver. Denny was an avid sports fan, loved leatherworking, and playing cards. He started game playing at the Mill Creek Activity Center. Denny loved his family and was very proud of them. He will be missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Maxine (Brewer) Sumner

Maxine (Brewer) Sumner, 82, of Spring Hill Kan passed away February 4, 2017, surrounded by her family. Maxine was born on November 25, 1934 in Miami County, Kan to Geneva and Bert Brewer. She grew up in Drexel, Mo as the youngest of seven children. Maxine married Dennis Sumner on March 26, 1955 in Paola, Kan. They made their home in Spring Hill, Kan. Maxine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was on a bowling league and a softball team. Maxine loved playing games at the Civic Center and especially enjoyed playing games with her family. She loved working in the yard and always had to keep herself busy. Maxine worked in the high school cafeteria and for 28 years as a waitress in Spring Hill and Olathe. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Spring Hill and the Spring Hill United Methodist Church. Maxine will be dearly missed by family and friends. Gerald “Gerry” Eugene Braun

Gerald “Gerry” Eugene Braun, 92, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away Feb. 11, 2017. Gerry was born Sept. 23, 1924 in Kansas City, Kan to Ernest George and Maurine (Kelly) Braun. He grew up in Edgerton, one of six children, and was a 1942 graduate of Edgerton High School. Gerry met his future wife, Kathleen E. Murphy, in second grade and they married on April 27, 1946 in Edgerton.. They traveled extensively while Gerry served 20 years in the US Marine Corps. After retiring from the US Marines Corp, Gerry and Kay settled in Independence, Mo, where Gerry pursued a career with Farmers Insurance Group, and they continued their traveling. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion of Independence, Mo. Gerry was loved very much. A practical and unpretentious man, he touched many people’s lives and made many friends along the way with his wit and wisdom. Raymond “Stan” Stanley Haynes

Raymond “Stan” Stanley Haynes, 66, of Overland Park, Kan passed away February 1, 2017 at The Health Resort of Olathe. Stan was born August 8, 1950 in Kansas City, Kan to O. Russell “Russ” and Ethel Mae (Smith) Haynes. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1968. Stan then went on to Emporia for a year then to University of Kansas and received a Bachelor’s degree in Business. He worked for Frontier Airlines in Denver and then KCMO as a Reservationist and Route Specialist for 13 years. He then worked for Sprint as a Project Manager in the Financial Planning Dept for 13 years, retiring in 2003. Stan was a member of Gardner Presbyterian and Baptist Churches. His parents owned the Gardner Pool Hall from 1947-1960s, where they lived and he and his brother helped them run the business. Stan was active in Cub and Boy Scouts, baseball leagues and Babe Ruth. He was on the varsity football, basketball and track teams. With his family, they worked for years to help build the Gardner American Legion Hall. Stan had enjoyed dancing since he was five years old and continued that passion while growing up, never missing Gardner Teen Town. Dr. M. G. “Doc” “Jerry” Callahan, 92, of Gardner, passed away Jan. 30, 2017, at Olathe Medical Center. Jerry was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Lowry City, Mo., to Marion Lesley and Vianna Elizabeth (Wallace) Callahan. He graduated high school in Pleasanton, Kan. Jerry served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. He married Carolyn M. Tolin on June 21, 1974, in Topeka. Doc was a doctor of chiropractic for 50 years, and he also worked for Local #10 Iron Wokers for Bratton Steel Corporation for 30 years. He and Carolyn have lived in Gardner for the last 44 years. Doc was a member of the Antioch Community Baptist Church, Gardner and Wellsville American Legion, the Kansas Old Time Fiddler and Pickers, the Blackjack Historical Society and the Sacro Occipital Technique Organization. Ruth Elizabeth Meyers Lorsbach, formerly of Osawatomie, Kan., passed from this earth on Jan. 27, 2017, after several months of illness, and she joined her heavenly family, including her husband Charles and son Chuck. On Dec. 24, 1932, in the small town of Marysville, Kan., Ruth entered the world as a joy-filled birthday and Christmas gift for her mother Muriel, whose birthday was Dec. 23, and father Andy Meyers. Together with her three brothers, she attended St. Gregory’s Grade School and Marysville High School. She is the mother of two sons by a previous marriage, Charles William Higginbotham, who precedes her in death, and George Phillip Higginbotham. On Nov. 10, 1962, she married Charles Paul Lorsbach at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa. Together, they had one son Robert Brian Lorsbach. They lived for several years in Lenexa before trading city life for the more rural setting of Gardner in 1975 and Osawatomie in 2006. She moved to Cedar Lake Village in 2015. Ruth was a very loving and dedicated mother whose life was devoted to raising her three sons. As her family grew, the addition of daughters-in-law and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also a source of great joy for her. Patricia Marie Osbourn Patricia Marie Osbourn, 66, of Gardner, Kan passed away January 31, 2017 at Olathe Hospice House. Pat was born November 10, 1950 in Clay Center, Kan to Dales Wilfred and Doris Marie (Sheely) Carnahan. She grew up in Clay Center, graduating from Clay Center Community High in 1968. Pat married Kenneth Osbourn on August 4, 1968 in Clay Center, Kan. She lived in Lenexa, Olathe and then she moved to Gardner in 2004. Pat worked as an Insurance Agent for Thomco in Overland Park, Kan for 30 plus years, retiring in 2015. She was a member of First Light United Methodist Church in Gardner and was active in the Bible studies. Pat was part of a Foodies Group and Bridge Club. She enjoyed going to the New Theatre Restaurant. Most of all, Pat loved to attend all her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
