Patricia L. Brawner

Patricia L. Brawner, 71, of Gardner passed away January 8, 2017 at Overland Park Regional Med. Center Patricia was born November 11, 1945 in Hutchinson, Kan to Verner Elroy and Mary Ethel (Hester) Briggs. She grew up in Hutchinson, where she attended school. Patricia married Ronnie Edward Brawner December 15, 1962 in Hutchinson. She lived in Hutchinson most of her life until her and Ronnie moved to Gardner in 2016 to be near family. Patricia enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; infant son and brother, Lester Briggs. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ronnie, of the home; children: Ronna Renken and husband Rick of Gardner, Cheryl Lucas and husband Randy of Mason City, Neb and Ronnie “Eddie” Brawner, Jr. of Hutchinson; siblings: Colleen Nichols of De Soto, Kan, William Briggs and Bernice Reed both of South Hutchinson; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. WAYNE LEROY KYLER Wayne Leroy Kyler, 73, of Gardner, Kan passed away Jan. 9, 2017. Wayne was born April 17, 1943 in North Tonawanda, N.Y. to Marion Rosen and Lavina Margaret (Hyland) Kyler. He grew up in New York where he graduated from Tonawanda High School. Wayne earned an Associate Degree from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute. He married Marie J. Vitale Oct. 14, 1967 in Buffalo, N.Y. Wayne was a banker at Anchor Bank in Tonawanda, N.Y. where he retired in 1983. He then worked for K-Val Hobbies in Buffalo, where he retired in 1995.Wayne and Marie moved to Gardner following his retirement. He was a Mason while in New York. His hobbies and pastimes included model railroading and weather watching. Wayne will be missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul Richard Kyler. Wayne is survived by his wife, Marie, of the home; daughter, Ann Marie Schichtel, Gardner, Kan; son, David Wayne and wife Kim Kyler, Lompoc, Calif; six grandchildren: Amber, Raven, Victoria, Joshua, Alexander and Jacob; two great-grandchildren: Samuel and Aubrey. Linda L. Niccum, 77, of Gardner, Kan passed away Jan. 6, 2017 at Olathe Hospice House Linda was born Sept. 28, 1939 in Olpe, Kan to Fred T. and Jenny Pearl (Dunn) Carlson. She grew up in the Wellsville/Paola area and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1957. Linda married Archie C. Niccum, Jr. May 6, 1960 in Edgerton, KS. After marriage they lived in Overland Park and then moved to Gardner in 1962. Her final employment included being an administrative clerk at Sprint from which she retired in 2002. She also had worked as an aide for Gardner Edgerton School District, Steel Benders and was an owner/operator of the Downtowner Restaurant in Gardner. She was a member of Edgerton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed traveling, reading and her book club. Linda was a devoted grandmother, great-grandmother and foster mom. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deborah Rochelle Barnes; sister, Virginia Turner; foster children: Marsha Voth, Terry Bryan and Larry Bryan. JEROME LAWRENCE SECK

Jerome Lawrence Seck, 97, of Olathe, KS formerly of Gardner, KS passed away Dec. 28, 2016 at Cedar Lake Village. Jerome was born Feb. 4, 1919 in Wea, KS to Lawrence Adam and Anna Christine (Schleicher) Seck. He grew up in Wea where he graduated from Wea High School in 1937. Jerome served in the Army Air Corps during WWII from 1941 to 1946. He married Evelyn Agnes Wilson on Sept. 22, 1951 in Topeka, KS and they moved to Gardner to farm. Jerome operated a grain and livestock farm for 45 years. He also was Superintendent of Maintenance at King Radio in Olathe. Jerome was a great “handyman” and carpenter. He was a 4-H leader; a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, the Johnson County Soil Conservation Service, Johnson County Extension Council, a board member of Water District #5 and many other organizations. He will be missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Seck in 2005; daughter, Rhonda Pritts in 2011; brother, Gilbert Seck and sisters, Bernice Dhooghie and Eleanor Pickert. Capt. William Perry Kennedy

Capt. William Perry Kennedy (Whisky Papa), USN, Ret. has flown into the sunset on Dec. 28, 2016. He was blessed with more than 95 years of a life full of family, friends, travel and love. He was born on a farm, July 5, 1921, in Purdin, MO to Frederick & Inez Kennedy. Later the family moved to Gardner, KS where he graduated from Gardner High School. He was commissioned after flight school at Pensacola Naval Air Station. Traveling west for his first assignment he stopped in Gardner and married his first love, Dorothy Turner. During their life together the family moved throughout the US to follow Bill’s military career as a pilot. He retired in 1966 from the Pentagon from the office of Chief of Naval Operations. After his first love passed, he was fortunate enough to meet and marry Estelle (Libby) Eldridge with whom he shared more than 26 years of family, friends and adventures. , Sr. of Gardner, KS, passed away Dec 19, 2016. He was 91 years old. Dave was a native New Yorker, which was still obvious by his accent 45 years after he left the state. Born October 22, 1925, he grew up on Long Island and attended LaSalle Academy in NYC where he was school photographer and captain of the debate club. He was a senior in high school when WWII broke out and joined the Army right after graduation. Near the end of the war Dave was wounded behind enemy lines and left for dead. He awoke and staggered back to camp where he was rushed to a war hospital and later flown to London for surgery and recuperation. After VE Day he finished out his war service as an MP in Germany and Paris. After the war Dave went to college at St. Bonaventure in upstate New York followed by law school at St. John’s in New York City. He joined Traveler’s Insurance company and stayed in the insurance industry through his career. He married the former Margaret Kelly in 1952 and they had four children. In 1970 the family moved to Kansas City. Dave joined Employers Reinsurance Corporation (ERC) and spent the rest of his career there. In 1989 Dave married the former Bobbi (Peer) Peterson. Della “Sissy” M. Royse, 85, passed away Dec. 23, 2016 at Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital in Gardner. Della was born May 24, 1931 to Lillie Mae (Meade) and William Robert Bolte in Pittsburg. She was a graduate of Pittsburg High School. Della married Carl Royse in Pittsburg. They lived in Baxter Springs, Kan and later moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. After her husband’s death, Della moved to Northwest Arkansas. After the passing of her father, WR Bolte, she moved to Lenexa and then Gardner to be with Stacy’s family. Della was an assistant Director at the Helen Walton Day Care Center in Bentonville, Ark. She was a wonderful caretaker, especially for her family, including her great nieces and nephews. For niece Stacy’s family, Della was their “Angel on Earth”. She was a member of the Church of God. Della will be dearly missed. Joyce Ellen Kelly, 78, of Gardner, passed away Dec. 21, 2016. Joyce was born Sept. 14, 1938 in Ochelata, Okla, the first daughter, 4th child of seven to Howard and Dorothy (Osborn) Roe. She grew up in Ochelata, , graduating from Ochelata High School in 1956 . She married Joseph Kelly on June 26, 1957 in Bartlesville, Okla. Joe was in the Navy and they lived in California for the first two years of their marriage. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1959, bringing home a new baby girl Karen. Shortly after arriving home, Joyce gave birth to Jo Lynn in 1959, Michael in 1960 and Scott in 1964. They moved to Missouri in 1964. Joyce was a stay at home mom in the late 60’s and early 70’s. After all her children were enrolled in school, she got several jobs at the children’s school as Gray Lady, Room Mother, Den Mother and others. She found her calling at John Knox Village Nursing Home where she continued to be a caregiver to the nursing home residents. Her title was Activity Coordinator. Jo Lynn said, “that was a fancy title for playing games with old people”. Eleanor Louise (Stone) Gooch, age 91, a longtime resident of Gardner, Kan and a dedicated Child of God, passed peacefully at the Hospice House of Olathe Medical Center on Friday evening, December 16, 2016. She was the loving wife of John B. Gooch, who departed this life in 1992. Eleanor was born in Cape Girardeau, Mo, as the second child of six children born to Walter and Myrtle Stone, later of St. Louis, Mo. She would want you to know that she is grateful that God has called her home and that her work for Him on the earth is finished. You may very well have been one of the people that she asked, “Do you know Jesus?”. Julia “Julie” Ann Page passed away December 8, 2016 surrounded by her family. Julie was born in Atchison Co., Kan on November 6, 1932 to the late George E. Adams and Opal A. Adams. Julie attended Emporia State Teachers College, received her teaching certificate and taught elementary school in Harrington, Kan. Upon her marriage to Bob, she moved to Gardner and helped him in his business, Page Oil Company, for many years. While her children were young, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Gardner School District and as a secretary at Nike Junior High and also in the Gardner Superintendent’s Office; she retired after 23 years. Julie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gardner for 61 years, a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Gardner Study Club/Athena Club. She enjoyed over 40 years of playing Bridge and Pinochle with friends in Gardner. Her retirement years were spent going to her grandchildren’s activities, sporting events, concerts and plays.
