McNulty Wedding Anniversary

The children of Shirley and Joe McNulty would like to wish them a happy 60th wedding anniversary. Shirley Marie Seitz and Joseph Frederick McNulty II were married on August 19, 1956 in the Neodesha, Kansas Presbyterian Church. A few days following the ceremony, the couple moved to Gardner, Kansas where they still reside. Shirley, now retired, worked as a respiratory therapist for more than twenty years, and she currently volunteers at the Gardner Branch of the Johnson County Library and the Gardner Senior Citizen’s Community Center. Joe, also retired, worked for USD 231 for more than fifty-seven years as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and in a number of other capacities. Judy Elise Hart, 19, of Edgerton, Kan passed away August 14, 2016 at St. Louis Children’s Hospital following a courageous life-long battle with cystic fibrosis. Judy was born April 18, 1997 in Overland Park, Kan to Steven Michael and Mary Theresa (Long) Hart. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after birth. Despite frequent hospitalizations, Judy lived a full life with loving family and friends. She spent time with close friends, shopping, watching movies, exploring amusement parks, listening to music, and traveling. She played the violin in the school orchestra, and was on her junior high school volleyball team. She enjoyed school dances and was elected prom queen her senior year in high school. She was fortunate to have many family members nearby, spending holidays and other special occasions with loving grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. She loved animals and nature and was most at home on the beach, whether with extended family in Nags Head N.C. , on vacations with her mother and friends, or at nearby lakes during fishing weekends with her father. Judy received her first double lung transplant on November 18, 2014. She worked hard in the following months and graduated from Gardner Edgerton High School, and was accepted into and received a scholarship for the architecture program at The University of Kansas. Thomas C. Henley, 77 , El Dorado, Kansas passed away, Monday, August 8, 2016, at Vintage Place in El Dorado. Tom’s was born on April 5, 1939, the son of Lester and Frances (Wells) Henley. He grew up in Spring Hill, Kan where he graduated with the class of 1957. Tom graduated from the Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia in 1961. He was a teacher and a coach in Madison, Kan. Later he completed his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Emporia State University. He was the school counselor in Goddard before joining the State of Kansas’ Department of Education in 1969 as a counseling consultant. Tom retired in 2003, after 34 years of service. In 2006, Tom was inducted into the Kansas Counseling Association Hall of Fame. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Sigma Tau Gamma. His lifelong passion was being a sports fan, coaching, playing sports or traveling to support the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs or the Kansas State Wildcats but his greatest passion of all was his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew, Christopher Henley. William John “Bill” Hanna, 75, of Gardner, Kan passed away August 8, 2016 at home. Bill was born February 28, 1941 in Darby, Pa to Agnes M. (Sullivan) and Clarence R. Hanna. He graduated High School in Springfield, Pa. Bill served in the U S Air Force. Bill married Mary Louise Van Skike on December 24, 1963 in Great Falls, Mont. He was a supervisor for 32 years at the Philadelphia Electric Co. Power Plant in Pennsylvania. They moved from PA to Wyoming, living there for 15 years where he drove a school bus in Laramie. After a short stay in Washington, they moved to Gardner in 2012. He worked as a crossing guard at Moonlight Elementary. Bill was a skilled, A thru Z handyman. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a volunteer at the Hillsdale Gun Club until he became ill. Bill and Mary’s grandson Matthew is living in their home. Bill loved him as if he were his own son. Elfreda L. Polfer, of Spring Hill, Kan, passed away July 15, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center Hospice House. Freda was born June 11, 1928 in Windsor, Mo to Stella Frances (Waldburger) and Freeman Ray Eldridge. She was a 1947 graduate of Hartford, Ark High School. Freda married Ralph Eugene Polfer on September 5, 1953 in Spring Hill. After a few years on the farm they moved to town in 1963. In 2015 she moved to Olathe to be near her daughter. She was a real estate clerk for the Johnson County Appraisal Office for 12 years, retiring in 1990. She was an avid outdoors person, enjoying trips to Table Rock Lake for skiing and swimming. She was an excellent marksman winning many honors in trap shooting. She also enjoyed gardening, playing volleyball and she was an enthusiastic bowler. Michael married Sondra Barta July 11, 1992 in Merriam. They have lived in Gardner the last 18 years. Mike was the CFO at Haskell University in Lawrence for 15 years. He was a big fan of the Rolling Stones and KU Basketball. Mike enjoyed fossil hunting, gardening, collecting coins, old postcards and stamps. He loved spending time with his family.
