Around Town

Question: People were collecting money for veterans on Sept. 3 at the Gardner Walmart.  Are they local from VFW post 11234?

Answer: According to Mike Hutton, member of Gardner VFW post 11234, the local VFW was not collecting funds at Walmart.  Hutton said persons who want to donate locally to veterans should drop it by the post.  One hundred percent of all donations made to the VFW post go to service men and women.  Hutton also said persons that see others collecting money for troops should ask to see their membership cards to determine which organizations they are affiliated with.  If they have a membership card they are more than likely legitimate.
As of press time, Wade Hurst, manager at Walmart, knew nothing about the persons collecting for veterans at Walmart.

It seems odd to me that the store manager would claim he was unaware of who was collecting at his front doors. He might want to check to see if there is any “collecting” going on at the back doors.
