Around Town

QUESTION: It appears that work is being done on the former Java Cone building at 405 E. Main Street in Gardner. What is happening there?

ANSWER: Corey Thurman, Gardner, is working to open a restaurant, “Daddy’s Diner,” no later than Feb. 5. Thurman said he has been working on the project for about a month.
The restaurant will feature casual, comfort food. Everything on the menu will be homemade. For example, Thurman, who once worked as a meat cutter, will grind hamburger and sausage served at the restaurant on site.
When it opens, the hours will be from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. In March, he plans to stay open later on Friday and Saturday nights serving things like steak and seafood.
“When you go to Mom’s house, everything is kind of more formal and proper,” Thurman said. “Here, everything is going to be mish-mashed.”
For example, he said Mason jars will serve as water glasses.
The restaurant will have a Facebook page that offers daily specials, he said.
