Question: When will we have results of the USD 231 bond issue?

Answer: In order to be counted, ballots must be in the election office no later than noon on Jan. 31. According to Johnson County Election Commissioner, Brian Newby, results should be available shortly thereafter.
He estimates the office will have a preliminary tally between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Election workers aren’t keeping a running total of how people are voting. When ballots arrive at the office, election staff verifies that their number of ballots matches the number from the post office.
The ballots are then separated into scannable size piles and run through the machine. The actual vote totals will not be queued on the machine until election day.
As of Jan. 19, the election office had received approximately 1,264 ballots from Gardner voters.
