An additional 820,000 square feet of warehouse space is on the way for the I-35 Logistics Park at 155th Street and U.S. 56 Highway.
Kessinger/Hunter, developer of the project, said the warehouse will be the largest speculative building ever built in the Kansas City area.
The warehouse will be a multi-tenant distribution facility located seven miles from KC Logistics Hub in Edgerton.
Plans call for 168 pass-through loading dock doors and parking for 270 trailers.
The facility is expected to draw on customers of the intermodal logistics park.
Olathe Mayor Michael Copeland said the developer’s investment is an indicator of its confidence in the local economy.
“We are thrilled to have an 800,000-plus square foot warehouse coming to Olathe, built by such a quality developer and placed in such a prime location,” Copeland said.
Construction is currently underway and is expected to be completed by mid-2013.
The complex is one of three Kessinger/Hunter plans to build at the site.
In 2008, Kessinger/Hunter developed a 60-square-foot speculative warehouse in Olathe that is now fully occupied by FedEx, SmartPost and Bushnell.
I-35 Logistics Park is just north of Midwest Commerce Center which is home to the recently constructed Coleman Distribution facility.
