Annual Prairie Punisher set for this weekend; road barricades will be up

Gardner Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for the 11th Annual Danisco Gardner Prairie Punisher Duathlon this weekend. The event kicks off at 7 a.m. on July 21 at Celebration Park.
The event, which includes a duathlon course with a 5K run, a 34.K bike ride and a second 5K run, will require road blockades on Saturday. Beginning at 6 a.m., Kill Creek Road will be closed to through traffic between 159th Street and 167th Street. Barricades will also be set up on 159th Street between Four Corners Road and Waverly Road. Officials anticipate removing barricades at approximately 10:30 a.m.
All roads will be open to traffic, but officials are asking drivers to use caution on the race course.
In addition to the individual duathlon competition, a team duathlon race will also be held as well as a separate 5K Run and 5K Walk. All proceeds of the walk event will go to the Gardner Gold Special Olympics Program.
