Alvin “Curly” W. Smith

Alvin “Curly” W. Smith, age 87, formerly of the Gardner-Edgerton area passed away on Dec. 17, 2012. 

Curly was born on Jan. 6, 1925 in Greenville, Mo.  He served active duty in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He retired from Marley Cooling Tower as a Machinist.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling during his retirement, settling in Eureka Springs, Ark. for a period of time, eventually returning to the Gardner-Edgerton area. 

Curly was preceded in death by one daughter Patricia Ann Smith and by his wife Oma Smith. 

Survivors include daughter Cindy Dunford and husband Ed, of Olathe, Kan., son Alvin “Sonny” Smith, Jr. and longtime companion Cariliynn Fernandez, of Bonner Springs, Kan.; son Tony Forbes and wife Effie, of Olathe, Kan.; five grandchildren Tammy Smith, Rob Stewart, Clint Forbes, Matt Springston and Justin Smith, two great-grandchildren Braden and Makayla and his beloved toy poodle “Cass”.  The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Aberdeen Village for their love and care.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Dec. 21 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Gardner Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service also at the funeral home.  Arrangements: Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St. Bonner Springs, KS 66012
