Allen LeRoy Shafer

Allen LeRoy Shafer, 92, of Spring Hill, Kan., passed away Nov. 29, 2012 at his home. 

Allen was born Jan. 25, 1920 at Hoxie, Kan. to Chester Waldo and Mary Elizabeth (Hines) Shafer.  He was a graduate of Prescott, KS High School. 

Allen married Sylvia Mayhugh on June 9, 1939 in Mound City, Kan.  They were the parents of five children. 

Allen later married Mary L Elliott Cochran on Nov. 28, 1969 in Spring Hill. 

He was an assembly line worker for Delco Remy Battery in Olathe for over 20 years.  Allen also did janitorial work for Reeves Wiedeman in Lenexa for 20 years and worked part time for Price Chopper.  He retired at the age of 89 but still kept very busy. 

He was a member of Ocheltree Baptist Church.  Allen enjoyed woodworking and gardening.  He loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by both of his wives Sylvia and Mary, parents, brothers Keith, Clarence and Chester and sisters Jane and Alice. 

Allen is survived by his children Linda F Wilson and husband Don, of Shawnee, Kan., Carol J Owen and husband Gary, of O’Fallon, Ill., Peggy Cochran and husband William, of Spring Hill, Marion L. Shafer and wife Dawn, of Floodwood, Minn., Sylvia Ann Hayes and husband Ron, of Overland Park, Kan., William A Cochran and wife Peggy, Dennis E Cochran, all of Spring Hill, David W Cochran and wife Jane, of Bates City, Mo., Jeffrey L Cochran and wife Donn, of Emporia, Kan., Meri Lou Christensen and husband Dean, of Fredricksburg, Va., Phillip M Cochran and wife Ellen of Ringwood, Okla.; 32 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; sisters Ina Kite, of Springfield, Mo., Betty Messer of Prescott, Kan. and Vera McCormick of Missouri.

Graveside Service will be 1 p.m., Dec. 7, 2012 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS.  Arrangements:  Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS, (913)592-2244.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Ocheltree Baptist Church.  Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com.
