Gardner Police Department
The continuing investigation into a recent string of auto burglaries in Gardner came to a conclusion Aug. 8 with the arrest of four individuals.
The Gardner Police Department took multiple reports of auto burglaries overnight on Aug. 5 and again overnight on Aug. 7.
On Aug. 8, patrol officers conducting saturation patrols in residential areas located the four suspects as they attempted even more auto burglaries in our city. A foot chase ensued, and all four were eventually taken into custody. Some stolen property was recovered at the time. The investigation is ongoing.
It should be noted that all four suspects (two adults and two juveniles) were from outside of the metro and were not Gardner residents. A suspect vehicle actually resembling a similar vehicle belonging to a Gardner resident was also located during the investigation. It should also be noted that none of the suspects were, in any way, related to Johnson County Fair activities or participants.
It is uncertain as to how many actual auto burglaries were committed, as some victims may have determined that their vehicles were entered but nothing was stolen, and decided not to report the incident. What is certain is that all of the vehicles burglarized were left unlocked and parked in driveways or on the street. The burglars just went car to car, entering those that were not secured. Please remember to lock your vehicles and avoid leaving valuables in your vehicles whenever possible.
