Twenty-six Gardner Edgerton High School Blazers are headed to the state track meet in Wichita, after posting qualifying marks at the Lawrence Free State 6A Regional last week.
The state meet takes place May 27-28 at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium. The top six in each event earn medalist honors.
Of the GEHS girls’ team, Heather Culbertson led the way in Lawrence. Her 124-feet 6-inch javelin throw was good for gold at Regionals.
A silver medal went to Cortlyn Tryon, who posted a 200 meter time of 26.5 seconds. Third place efforts came from Karli Smith in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, Abby Lane in the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.6 seconds, Taylor Carpenter 100 meters in a time of 12.8 seconds, and the 1600 relay team of Sierra Coen, Larissa Weidler, Miranda Tenove and Tryon.
Cassidy Androff qualified with a fourth place shot put of 35-feet 7-inches. Also qualifying with a fourth place finish was the 3200 relay team of Coen, Weidler, Lauren Highfill, and Tenove. Also qualifying are Faith Jolly and Kelsey Leffert in the triple jump.

On the boys’ team, Anthony Cisneros and Kyle Stubler both earned gold medals and qualified for state. Cisneros will compete in javelin, and Stubler will compete in pole vault.
Cisneros won his second gold medal in two consecutive meets with a javelin throw of 193-feet 3-inches. Stubler won the pole vault with a clearance of 14-feet 6-inches, and Conner McGuire took second with a vault of 13-feet 6-inches.
GEHS’ Sam Stranathan and Andrew Sprague qualified for state in the discus. Stranathan took third at Regionals with a toss of 135-feet 2-inches. Sprague took fourth with a 134-foot toss.
Tim Visos-Ely took second with a 200 meter time of 22.72 seconds, and then teamed with Jamin Anderson, Tanner Hughes, and Matt Summerlin to take fourth in the 400 relay in 43.38 seconds.
Trae Henderson took third with a 200 meter time of 22.13. He took fourth in the 100 meters in a time of 11.11 seconds.
Also qualifying was the 1600 relay team of Jamin Anderson, Gage Bacon, Hughes, and Ely with a fourth place finish.
