December 2, 2013 – A huge crowd gathered tonight in Gardner’s Cornerstone Park for the 23rd annual Christmas in the Park lighting ceremony. Mayor Chris Morrow was the master of ceremonies for the event. The Mayor introduced city council members in attendance and thanked various people involved in Gardner Christmas programs.

Mr & Mrs. Santa Claus arrived in Gardner at the end of the Mayors remarks, in a fire truck with lights flashing and everyone cheering. GEHS Principal Tim Brady also spoke to the crowd and introduced GEHS Student Council President Jacob McIntire, who was selected to assist Mr & Mrs. Claus in turning on the light displays in the park. Immediately after the lights came on there was a fireworks display, which produced more cheers and the entire crowd joined together to sing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” at the conclusion.
Santa’s Workshop was then opened. A long line formed and all the Gardner children in attendance got a chance to visit with him up close and in person.
Gardner Parks and Rec deserves a big thumbs up for coordinating all the festivities with perfect timing!
