July 4, 2014 – Gardner Lake was the site of many family get-togethers over the 4th of July weekend, as it always is, on July 4th, and it all got started off with the 11th Annual Gardner Lake 4th of July Boat Parade on Friday afternoon. The parade was first organized by lake residents in 2003 and it has since become an annual event with good participation.
After registration, parade boats gather at the dam and the parade got started at 4:00 pm. The boats start at the dam and make their way down the west shore of the lake to the lower end, where they make a U-turn and then parade back vy all the homes on the east side of the lake.
This year, the public voted for the best floats by telephone. The Parade Committee, with Gardner Lake Association President Harold Quaintance on board, preceeded the processional, handing out the phone number to call in to cast votes.
This years winner was “The Vikings” by the Young Family.
Later in the evening, people enjoyed live music provided by “Land Rush”, from both land and water as they played on Mike Young’s dock. Being 4th of
July and all, there were a few fireworks too.
