1 dead, 2 injured in car accident

A Gardner Edgerton High School student is dead and two adults are injured after an accident at 159th Street and Four Corners Road shortly after 6 p.m. in Gardner last night.

Sixteen-year-old Andrew Hurd of Gardner was killed after the Jeep Cherokee he was driving struck a Dodge Ram 3500 pick-up truck driven by James Crainshaw at the intersection.  Crainshaw’s son, Daron, was a passenger in the truck.

Both Crainshaws were transported via Johnson County MedAct where one is listed in critical condition. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Mike Pfannenstiel said.

“We don’t show speed being a major factor, and we don’t show any other distractions or anything as factors,” he said.
